A number of 120 Iranian doctors have participated at Arbaeen Walk voluntarily to help pilgrims.

The Iranian doctors have provided medical services to pilgrims from Iran and other countries participating in the ritual of Arbaeen, with their voluntarily presence in a field hospital.

Arbaeen is an Arabic word meaning “the fortieth.” It refers to the fortieth day since the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS). He was martyred in Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram known as the Day of Ashura.

Shia Imams’ words persuaded Shia Muslims to visit Karbala on Arbaeen day and undertake a pilgrimage to the shrine of Imam Hussain (AS). The tradition of Arbaeen Walk has continued to the present day.

In the days before Arbaeen, all the ways leading to Karbala are full of pilgrims moving towards the city. According to statistics from previous years, about 20 million people attend the gathering every year.

In Arbaeen Walk, each of the participants has his/her solitude with God and a special spiritual experience; But this collective movement and observing all kinds of devotional and spiritual behaviors from others such as reciting prayers, mourning, benevolence, tolerating all kinds of difficulties such as heat and thirst and blisters on the feet deepen spirituality.
